  1. The Menningers were an American family of renowned psychiatrists who 
  2. founded some of the world‚Äôs leading psychiatric clinics. Charles 
  3. Frederick (1862¬≠1953) and his son Karl Augustus (1893¬≠1990) founded 
  4. The Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas in 1925 to treat the mentally ill. 
  5. Later, Karl and his brother William Claire (1899¬≠1966) founded the 
  6. Menninger Foundation for Education and Research. Both brothers were 
  7. also prolific authors of scientific works.
